Tree-climbing lions and a lake of flamingos.
A green ribbon between the Great Rift Valley and a shimmering soda lake - small, lush, and full of surprises.
Where forest meets the Rift.
Lake Manyara National Park lies about 115 km from Moshono Hillside and covers 648 km². It sits on the route to the Serengeti, nestled between Lake Manyara and the wall of the Great Rift Valley. Two-thirds of the park is water.
It's best known for its lush green groundwater forest of tall trees, its famous tree-climbing lions, and the soda lake - home to thousands of pink flamingos and large waterfowl.
What you'll see
Beyond the flamingos and lions, the park is home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys, plus herds of elephants, klipspringers, warthogs, impalas, buffalos, hippos, gazelles and leopards - a lot of variety in a compact, beautiful setting.
