A world inside a crater.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa - superb game viewing in a setting like nowhere else.
Formed by a collapsing volcano.
Ngorongoro Crater lies 160 km from Moshono Hillside, within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area - a protected territory in Tanzania's Arusha region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater's 264 km² of wetlands, forests and grasslands were formed 2.5 million years ago, when an active volcano's cone collapsed inward after a massive eruption.
It sits on the route between Arusha and the Serengeti, making it a natural stop with world-class game viewing. It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa - alongside the Red Sea, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Sahara, the wildebeest migration, the Nile and the Okavango Delta.
What you'll see
The crater holds a remarkable concentration of animals: wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, black rhinos, warthogs, hippos, lions, leopards, baboons, buffalos and elephants - often within view of one another on the crater floor.
