After dusty days chasing lions and elephants, few things beat unwinding on a warm beach - which is exactly why the safari-and-Zanzibar combination is the most popular way to see Tanzania.
How the two connect
It is easier than it looks. Short flights link Arusha and Kilimanjaro with Zanzibar in around an hour and a half, and you can even fly straight from a Serengeti airstrip to the coast, so no time is wasted backtracking.
How long for each
A satisfying split is roughly five days on safari and three to four on the island, but anything from a long weekend on the beach upwards works. Do the safari first and the beach as your reward.
Zanzibar highlights
Wander the coral-stone alleys of UNESCO-listed Stone Town, take a spice-farm tour, then head north to the powder-soft sands of Nungwi and Kendwa, or dive and snorkel the reefs. A sunset dhow cruise is the classic finish.
Most trips begin and end in Arusha, so start and finish with a restful night at the hotel while we help sequence your flights.
